The most common digital marketing skills are also the most important ones, according to a report from U.S. digital marketing firm Udacity.
“We believe digital marketing is critical for creating a more seamless digital marketing experience,” said Scott McEwen, senior vice president and global director of digital.
“In order to stay ahead in today’s digital era, we must ensure our teams have a strong understanding of the tools and best practices available to them.”
Udacity also noted that digital marketers should be mindful of the challenges of the job market.
“With the number of jobs in the digital economy at an all-time high, it’s critical to find a job that will help you achieve your digital marketing goals,” said McEwan.
The report, which was released Tuesday, also found that digital marketing can be a tough and fast-paced job, and some employees have struggled to learn new skills in the industry.
Some experts say digital marketing teams must take time to get acclimatized to a different digital environment.
“It’s a challenge to transition from your old work environment to your new digital work environment, especially if you’re new to digital marketing,” said Jason Hildebrand, director of marketing at CareerBuilder.
He added that the industry is still trying to figure out what works best for new hires, and what skills will be valuable to those transitioning to the digital world.
“Companies and individuals need to have a better understanding of how to use these new tools, and be more flexible when adapting to them,” Hildebrant said.
Udacity is also advising employers on how to prepare candidates for the digital job market, such as identifying what digital marketing tasks will help with the job, learning how to apply for digital jobs and how to find out how to get the most out of digital marketing in your company.
